Hi Andy - I probably won't make it to IWMW this year (second kid will have just arrived) but I am genuinely interested in Agile techniques, so this gets my vote! Hope you're well. -Anthony.

We've done some nice work on our site search. It no longer searches HTML pages, but the underlying databases, plus pulls out commonly searched terms and has pre-prepared suggestions.

This was based on studying a years worth of search queries.

Try it:
http://www.ecs.soton.ac.uk/

It searches our members, research projects, research themes, publications, press releases, and a few other odds and ends.

I'm very interested too. Tentatively starting to put together a couple of pages exclusively for mobile devices.

As well as the mti example, http://www.utexas.mobi is another US uni example. Not as visually pleasing as mti's site, but it's interesting to compare the two for content.

I think the underlying aspects of this are the key - it doesn't have to be the BBC, but they have some good stuff to say, and very practical demonstration of why you should use some of the concepts I mentioned in the original suggestion. I also hope that some of IWMW can be aspirational!

Such a good idea for a session, Adrian! I only joined Twitter last week and am already suffering mild twitter paranoia, and also have phases where I remove several Facebook friends, and then consider obliterating all online data about myself and retreating to small hammock in unidentified location...however, I love the social and professional benefits of these networks...it's a constant inner battle!

Vashti

While I think this would be interesting, my worry would be that their reach is so beyond ours it would ultimately be depressing. It would be useful if someone from the BBC could identify their best practices that it would be possible to migrate to our kind of tin-pot rickety set ups.

I was thinking along the lines of a quick fire brainstorm on the good, the bad and the ugly (I suppose that fits) and then making a start. Hadn't really thought any more about it, I just know I'd been involved with a number of sessions where it's been discussed but nothings ever evolved so maybe we do just need to get our hands dirty?

I'm really interested in this, both from a developer point of view and with a management hat on. Think it would be useful to see case studies on how it applies to different types of project which might be typical in HigherEd, especially when working in small teams, for example where only one or two people might be working on a project.

Although perhaps not driven by the credit crunch in and of itself, it may be that organisations striving for efficiency improvements will reorganise. How might these reorganisations be quickly and accurately reflected online and in other areas? What processes, structures and tools might help with this? How can institutional web masters demonstrate efficiencies and value for money to senior management?

Take the best of the core principles and embed them into our day-to-day webbery. In order to do so, of course, you have to understand some of the pile which no one understands...
